Jamie Lowry had a surprise run out in a reserve friendly against Derby County at their training ground today.

The Spireites glandular fever victim got in a welcome 20 minutes of football at the start of his rehabilitation back to full fitness.

New signing Kyle Critchell also had his first 90 minutes of football with the Spireites.

Also included in the team was Hibernian striker Sam Morrow who was given permission by his Scottish club to have a trial with Chesterfield.

The game ended with a 1 nil win for the Rams after a 69th minute goal from Paris Simmons but there were other chances at both ends.

Best chance for Chesterfield came when Wayne Allison scooped the ball over the bar from close range.

Overall though another good work-out for the lads against a mixed Rams team of youngsters and squad players, which included Paul Peschisolido, who also missed a sitter.

A number of Chesterfield's senior players made a case for a recall to Saturday's lineup for the trip to Huddersfield.
