The Youth Team bounced back from a 2-0 home league loss against Scunthorpe on Saturday with an  8-4 (eight-four) win over Leicestershire side Hinckley United in Round One of the Midland Youth Cup at Saltergate on Tuesday.

A hat-trick from Jake Williams spear-headed the rout, whilst five others got on the sheet, Cameron Fearon, Paul Roome (pen), Gary Challinor, Ben Algar and Josh Lowe .

The Spireites didn't have it all there own way though and were left with some learning points after a spirited Hinckley scored four goals.

In fact, Hinckley took an early lead before Jake Williams slammed home the equaliser after a breakaway from the half-way line.  Cameron Fearon backheaded over the keeper for number two and a Jake Williams netbulger made it 3-1 at half-time.

Hinckley pulled a goal back soon after the break before Jake Williams got his hat-trick.

But Hinckley kept a toe-hold in the game with a header from a free-kick to make it 4-3. Chesterfield were then on a role and went on to score four more goals.

Paul Roome scored from the penalty spot after a hand ball, Gary Challinor rolled one in from the edge of the box, whilst Ben Algar and Josh Lowe both got on the scoresheet to make it 8-3.

Some sloppy play by Chesterfield let in Hickley for a late fourth goal, but by that time it was game set and match to the Spireites.

Chesterfield are through and could play Walsall at the Bescot Stadium in round two, depending on their first round result.

Ten of the Chesterfield side are players from the club's own Centre of Excellence.

Around 200 fans saw the incredible game.

Starting line-up 4.3.3: Daniel Whatsize (sub Matthew Malak 82), Adam Yates, Thomas Ball, Cameron Fearon, Paul Roome, Gary Challinor, Dan Gray, Ben Algar, Thomas Cooper-Richards, Jake Williams, Josh Lowe (sub Richard Bull 84).

Interview with youth team manager Dave Bentley coming soon on Spireites World.
