SPIREITES RESERVES 2 BLADES RESERVES 2

Chesterfield Reserves had a really good work-out this week and deservedly drew 2-2 in a behind-closed-doors game against an experienced Sheffield United Reserve team.

Against the run of play, the Blades scored two goals by half-time through Neil Shipperley and Chris Robertson, both untidy scrambled efforts.

Unlike the first team at Forest last Saturday we did not concede again, which provided us with the springboard to get back into the game with two second-half goals.  Jamie Jackson scored with a fine solo effort, a nifty run and angled shot, which went in off the far post. Wayne Allison also got on the scoresheet when he tucked home a firm curling shot on the turn.

Michael Jordan made a couple of excellent saves in our nets to keep us in the game.  It was also pleasing to see a number of players getting much-needed games under their belts, including a first 45 minutes this season for Gareth Davies.

Janos Kovacs and Jamie Lowry also did well up against the experienced strikeforce of  Ade Akinbiyi and Neil Shipperley, who between them have attracted combined transfer fees of nearly £20 million.  Hungarian Gyorgy Kiss also got in more match practice but had to come off at half-time because of a possible hamstring problem.

So far this season we have played Staveley Welfare and Mansfield Town but we are planning to get in even more games, especially before Christmas, so everyone gets plenty of match practice.   With having a small squad the reserve team will be supplemented when we need to with a number of juniors and the occasional trialist. Reserve games obviously have to be arranged round first team fixtures and Sheffield United reserves games, which are also played at Saltergate.

The Spireites lineup against the Blades: Michael Jordan, Alex Bailey, Janos Kovacs, Jamie Lowry, Shane Nicholson, Adam Smith, Reuben Wiggins-Thomas, Gyorgy Kiss (sub 46 Gareth Davies), a trialist, Paul Shaw (sub 60 Wayne Allison), Jamie Jackson.
