The reserves have been in action and were 3-1 winners over a lively reserve team from Rushden & Diamonds at Chesterfield's training ground at Warminster Road, Sheffield.

There was disruption to the Chesterfield side within two minutes of the kick-off when a foreign trialist had to be stretchered off and taken to hospital for a pre-cautionary X-ray.

Jamie Jackson came on as a replacement and changed the course of the game by laying on two goals and scoring one himself.

Jamie Jackson in action for the Spireites youth team

The breakthrough for the Spireites came five minutes before the break.  A raid down the right by Jamie Jackson caught out the Rushden defence.  Jamie swept in a low cross which was literally buried into the net from close-range by Tcham N'Toya.

The Rushden equaliser came ten minutes into the second-half from an equally good strike when a cross-shot was whipped into the bottom corner of the net.

In a game spoilt a tad by the wind it was hard to see which side would get the edge, until Jamie Jackson took the game by the scruff of the neck.  His pace, which caused a problem for Rushden most of the game, set himself free again and he burst through to sweep the ball into the net with some aplomb.

Ten minutes from time Jamie burst through again but this time set up trialist Colin Heath who rounded the keeper to fire home.

Following the final whistle, the good news came from the hospital that the foreign trialist had not broken his leg but had suffered some very bad bruising and will mean him hobbling around for a few days as a result.

Alex Bailey played for a full ninety minutes, following his recent injury, in a sound looking back four led by Janos Kovacs.

Starting line-up:  Carl Muggleton, Alex Bailey, Ashley Foyle, Janos Kovacs, Jamie Lowrie, Colin Heath, trialist Billy Abbott (sub Michael Bunn 55), Gareth Davies, Caleb Folan, Tcham N'Toya, foreign trialist (sub Jamie Jackson 2).
