The Spireites reserves had a training practice match against Crewe Alexandra to give squaddies match practice and, for some, experience in differing positions as the game progressed.

A more settled Crewe side were 3-1 winners with Jordan Bowery scoring a consolation goal for Chesterfield.

Reserve team coach Wayne Allison said: "It was crucial that we got this game in and it served its primary purpose in giving the lads some valuable match practice."
