Around six months after trying to pick him up on a free, The Spireites paid their first transfer fee in around seven years to bring Jamie Ward up from Torquay to score the goals to keep them up. It was quite a task for the ex-Aston Villa trainee, but he looked up to it until a hamstring injury caused him to miss much of the side's run-in. His pace, shooting accuracy and "in your face" determination was sorely missed, but the Northern Ireland under-21 player will surely cause problems to League Two defences in 2007-8.
