Roy - can you tell us about Gyorgy Kiss?

Gyorgy as a Vasas Budapest player

We've had Gyorgy with us for about ten days, to train with us, He's naturally left-footed and we haven't got many of those in the club. He's a good footballer and experienced, at 31 years of age. He's played at the top level in Hungary and has made it to international squads and, although he hasn't got an international cap, he has been on the bench for games. At the moment he's behind, in terms of his general fitness, so in the first week to ten days of the month we'll try and build him up on the physical side, to get him up to the level of the other boys.

And then he'll be in contention for the squad?

Once we get him right, we'll see. If we had emergencies then he would come in earlier, but we're looking at using the first week to ten days to build up his fitness, to give him a fair chance. Its not worth him going out on the park unfit; he could injure himself, so we want to get him stronger than he is.

And this month gives you the opportunity to assess him, for a longer deal?

Yes. We've had him for ten days and we're pleased with what we've seen, and he's got the opportunity to impress us and earn a longer contract.

How did we get to know about him?

Through the recommendation of an agent, like a lot of players. We know he's been to one or two other Football League clubs without anything happening.

Is there room on your budget to put him on?

We've got through the Carling Cup now, so that should give us a little more financial clout! The pleasing thing is that even before the cup game the Chairman and the board had backed me in bringing him in, and if he impresses us, I'm sure the Chairman and the board will offer him a longer contract.
