I have been speaking to Lee for the last few months really. He wanted to be kept informed about the situation I was in. Last week it came to the point where I was able to negotiate a settlement to leave Cardiff. I rang Lee and it's all happened rather quickly I suppose. But I am still 32 orjust hanging on to being 32 and I want to kick start my career again after a desperate eighteen month or so in which I haven't played that much first team football.
I can play on either side but prefer the left and I do like to be involved so have in the past been told by managers to stay out wide more. I hope I can add the experience that Lee wants
All my family were Derby supporters and we followed them virtually everywhere so it was great to start at Derby on a YTS. I left Derby aged 21 and went to Stockport and I actually played at Saltergate the night Stockport won promotion so I have some fond memories of playing here. I had four successful years at Stockport before moving to Wimbledon.
I enjoyed my time at Wimbledon and there was a bit of turmoil behind the scenes with the owners trying to relocate the club. Dave Jones came back in for me and took me to Wolves and then he signed me again we he took over at Cardiff.
I got injured and found it difficult to get back into the Cardiff side and a couple of loans didn't really work out so eventually I settled my contract there. I have had a number of phone calls from other clubs which came as a surprise as my situation hadn't really changed besides being a free agent.
But Lee really sold the club to me and Chesterfield were my first choice. I have always looked out for Chesterfield results. I know a lot about the Club and I have a few friends who are supporters after being brought up just down the road. I am also good friends with Shane Nicholson and I know a few others from playing.
Really though I am just looking forward to getting started really and hopefully there will be a couple more new faces to further bolster the squad in the next few weeks and we can push on for promotion.
