The local charity was nominated by the Spireites to receive a share of the FA Community Shield Fund, which is the traditional curtain-raiser to the domestic season between the Premiership and FA Cup champions

Chesterfield director Philip Taylor said: "The Community Shield Fund enables clubs like Chesterfield to support local charities and we are delighted that this year we are able to support the good work of our local branch of the Alzheimer's Society."

The Alzheimer's Society is the leading care and research charity for people with all forms of dementia, their families and their carers.  The local branch, one of four branches in Derbyshire, covers Chesterfield Borough Council and the District Councils of Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.

It is estimated that about 4,000 people with dementia live in this area, of which about 100 are younger people under age 65.
