Wayne Allison may well be 39 in a couple of weeks time, but he's still playing and contributing to the cause, his sub appearance at Notts County at the weekend was his 749th league appearance. Steve Fletcher limped off with a thigh injury at Meadow Lane, increasing Chief's chances of an appearance at the Racecourse Ground which would mean he'll become only the second striker in the history of the Football & Premier Leagues to reach that particular milestone.

Only Frank Worthington (757) has passed the marker, so that's a target still well within reach of the player-coach.

Fellow veterans Teddy Sheringham (41) and Dean Windass (38) are the oldest other current strikers on the block and their total appearances are 720 and 587 respectively, putting Wayne's stats into some sort of perspective.

Wayne will be the 16th player to reach 750 appearances in the English version of the game, three others have passed the mark if you take Scottish League games into account, but only Worthington has earned his corn in the hurly burly position of a front man.
