Chesterfield FC is asking its fans who travel to matches by car to consider giving fellow Spireites fans a lift to the game against Bury this Friday evening, September 7, kick-off 7.30pm.

The call comes after confirmation from local bus company Stagecoach that it's drivers are staging a lighting strike, with evening bus services being axed Friday night after 6.00pm.

Chesterfield finance director Alan Walters, said: "We are disappointed that this untimely dispute could hit attendances after we moved the game to the Friday night to avoid clashing with England's International against Israel on Saturday afternoon."

"We rely heavily on matchday income to survive as a club, so disruption to public transport is likely to disrupt our attendance on probably our one and only Friday night game of the season."

Alan Walters added: "The timing will hit the biggest single spectator event in Chesterfield, a football match, but we are hopeful our fans can use their ingenuity to get to the game."

"The good news is that weatherwise, it looks like being a fine night, so perhaps an opportunity for fans who can to have a stroll to the match and back."
