SALTERGATE
Planning Permission was received for a re-development of Saltergate last Spring. In the middle of housing and hemmed in by roads to all four sides, the current ground, believed to be the oldest Senior League Football Ground in the World (Dates from 1871), has limited development potential and as such the space on the Saltergate (Kop) end has to be the main area for development.
Therefore the redevelopment suggested by Architect Terry Ward of Ward McHugh, Sheffield, concentrates on this end of the ground, with the remaining three sides being much smaller. There would be new stands built on the Cross Street end and the Compton Street terrace whilst the Main Stand on St Margaret's Drive (dating from 1936) would be refurbished.
Capacity would be around 14,000 if terracing were to be combined with seating on the Saltergate end.

Redevelopment would be staged with the first side being the Compton Street side of the ground which is currently closed to fans after being neglected completely since the Taylor Report on Stadium Safety. The second phase would then either be the refurbishment of the current Main Stand or the Kop (as pictured) with the Cross Street terrace being the final phase.
