NEW STADIUM UPDATE July 2007
In April 2007, the club reported that it hoped an application for full planning for the new stadium at Whittington Moor would be submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council in June/July 2007.
With a 13 week statutory planning process, followed by a 52 week build programme, the new stadium could have been ready for October/November 2008. But, as reported previously, every month's delay at the beginning adds on another month's delay at the end.
Perceived delays to the previously announced estimated timescales of key dates has started to raise some speculation amongst fans about what is happening with the new stadium project. For that reason this club statement is being made but inevitably it does reiterate some things that have been reported previously.
Currently, the ball is still in the court of site owners, Wilson Bowden, as they finalise arrangements with their site partner. When these have been concluded, and they are in a position to move forward, it is expected that a major joint announcement will be made about next steps.
The club once again confirms that it is already poised and ready to submit an application for detailed planning approval for the new stadium. It is also reaffirmed that the planned location for the new stadium is on the old
The next steps in the project can only be progressed when Wilson Bowden give the green light so that a full planning application can be submitted for the major development on the Whittington Moor site.
Although Chesterfield FC has no influence or involvement with the deliberations between Wilson Bowden and their site partner, the club has ensured that the new stadium plans are in place and ready to go when the planning process commences in the near future.
