Spireites make one change to the starting line up with Jamie Ward replacing Steve Fletcher who picked up a Knee Injury. Michael Jordan returns to the bench for the first time since October, Jordan replaces Felix Bastians who has returned to Nottingham Forest. Adam Rooney has agreed to stay for a further six months and he kept his place on the right of midfield. Wrexham who had lost their last five games made three changes, included on the bench was Michael Proctor who scored here for Hartlepool in 2005. Todays Referee was Darren Deadman and todays Centre Half for Chesterfield was Janos Kovacs need I say anymore.

Three Minutes gone and the Spireites gained the first corner but nothing comes of it. Six Minutes and the Wrexham defence is pushed apart by lester Lester and Ward and the young striker shoots but it's saved by Anthony Williams.

Poor clearance from Anthony Williams falls to the feet of Peter Leven some fully forty yards out who strikes the ball goalwards and Williams in his attempt to stop the shot falls over and can only parry the effort as it bobbles over the line. It's Leven's third goal of the season.

Chesterfield manage to dominate in the attacking third and a Robertson cross is missed at the back post by Niven and Rooney who collided with each other. The Pressure at the moment is all on the Wrexham Defence. On 15 Lester crosses for Ward to volley over.

20 mins gone and the Wrexham defenders have realised that Lester is a threat and go in hard on the striker. Meanwhile in a surprise venture forward for the Welshmen Downes leaves the ball for Roche who clatters into former Doncaster man Neil Roberts and he requires treatment but no foul given. Long Kick from Roche flicked on by Pejic for Ward to try to bring down but the ball makes it's way to Williams in the sticks.

On the 25 minute mark Jack Lester causing mayhem upfront for the Spireites releases Rooney inside the Penalty Area however the Loanee can only strike at Williams. On 27 Kovacs goes in hard but fair in a challenge with debutant Conal Murtagh and the Doctor is called to check on the injury sustained by the Wrexham midfielder, the Doctor stipulates that the youngster can no longer continue to be replaced by Neil Taylor.

Chesterfield's final pass is not coming off as it was earlier in the game, a forward pass from Robertson to Ward and he can only shoot wide of the target. Same situation again only it's a pass from Niven and Ward this time gets closer with Williams making a good save.

41 minutes gone and the Spireites double their lead, a chipped ball forward by Winter and Leven flicks the ball backwards into the feet of Jack Lester and Lester slots home for his seventeenth of the season (15 in the League). The first half comes to an end with the Spireites dominant and looking to push on for more goals.

HT: CHESTERFIELD 2-0 WREXHAM Att: 4293 (208 away supporters)

Second half begins and Chesterfield begin with a further attack and Jamie Ward being forced wide by Simon Spender can only shoot wide from a narrow angle. A Foul by Neil Taylor on Adam Rooney results in a yellow for the young Dragon.

Leven plays Robertson on the outside on 57 minutes and the Scottish U21 internationals run is measured by a Lester volley just over the bar. Lovely ball from Downes releases Ward again down the left hand side and he plays in Lester who nudges the ball for Winter to drive past the post.

Then Wrexham pull a goal back from nowhere, a corner from the left hand side is flicked on by Neil Roberts for Steve Evans to head home and it's game on. All of a sudden Wrexham have a spring in their step.

A Shot by Llewellyn smacks into Kovacs in the Penalty Area no appeal but then again I'm not sure there was against Southend. Wrexham are now increasing the pressure on the Spireite defence. Llewellyn hits a shot wide on 76 mins. Chesterfield make two subsitutions with Alan O'Hare replacing Derek Niven and Gareth Davies for the tiring Derek Niven. O'Hare comes into left midfield with Leven dropping into Centre.

Forward pass from Llewellyn finds Proctor and Roche saves with his feet, seconds later a long ball out of defence for Wrexham finds Proctor again in space and his shot is superbly saved by Barry Roche. Some of the Chesterfield Fans in the Stand getting despondant as Wrexham continue to attack.

The Full time whistle comes in the end to great relief around Saltergate as we were pushed all the way by a Wrexham side not going down without a fight. Wrexham in all fairness should have been out of the game by Half time we were gulity of some sloppyness in the second half but our young back line held out and gained their fourth win from the last four games only conceding one goal.

The Spireites obtain the Chairmans wish with four wins out of four in the Christmas Period but in the end they were made to work hard for the points.
