The Spireites led after a great strike from Steve Fletcher but were pegged back in the second half after Matt Blinkhorn earned the Shrimpers a deserved share of the points at Christie Road

The Spireites kept the same starting line up as to last Saturday against the Shrewsbury with the only change on the Spireites bench with Jamie Winter replacing keeper Jamie Annerson.

Morecambe also made one change from their Tuesday night draw also against Shrewsbury with Garry Hunter in for Stewart Drummond. Jon Newby passed a late fitness test to partner Matt Blinkhorn upfront.

The Spireites dominated the opening exchanges and Shrimps keeper Scott Davies made a great save one of many the young stopper would make low to his left from Jamie Ward in the opening minute after a mistake by Garry Hunter. Davies was called into action again early on when skipper Peter Leven's ball sent  Ward through again and Davies made another good save again.

Derek Niven's 20 yard effort from Leven's second attempted cross was saved by Davies with
Chesterfield able to pick out a man with ease and the Shrimps stretched at times.Leven forced the second Chesterfield corner in the 11th minute with Adams under pressure at the far post but again a wasted corner from the Spireites. Morecambe won their first free kick in the 15th minute with Adams punting long to Baker but he could only direct his cross into the arms of Barry Roche. At the other end the Spireites continued to the more lively and  played the better passing football and looked sharp and the more likely side to open the scoring.

Morecambe won their first corner on the half hour. Derek Niven could have scored a minute later after a poor header from Bentley was latched onto by Niven but his 18 yard effort went over the bar.

Shrimpers keeper  Davies though  had no chance in the 35th minute when Steve Fletcher hit a superb effort from 20 yards a great volley went in off the inside of the post to give Davies no chance at all. It ended another good move by the Spireites with Roche sinding long For Fletcher to nod down to Ward, he passed to Lowry who set up Fletcher for a thunderbold shot.  Davies seconds later made another great stop to deny Ward at the edge of the 18 yard box.

All well and good at half time but sadly the Spireites were out played for much of the second half by a rejuvenated home side. Sammy McIlroy brought on Damien Allen to replace Jon Newby at the start of the second half. Allen was involved early on and perhaps should have levelled the scoring after Garry Hunter on right hand side of the Shrimpers midfielder Allen skied his effort over the bar from 15 yards out.

Despite that Aaron Downes and Peter Leven had good efforts cleared off the line but Morecambe fought their way back into the game.

The Shrimps won a corner though in the 51st minute but despite some good pressure they couldn't muster a shot on target but the Spireites were under pressure and an all to rare break again forced  into another save this time from Leven with his shot from 20 yards. Aaron Downes also went close with a  header that almost doubled the Spireites lead from a corner from Lowry but Adams cleared off the line.

Wayne Curtis after a good ball  from Hunter and Curtis ran into the box and perhaps looked to have been held back and his left footed shot from 15 yards came off the spot and cleared for a corner.

Shrimps keeper Davies put himself under some pressure with a dropped ball from Lowry's punt but scrambled a save on the second attempt as he continued to have a good game. Lee Richardson decided to change things in the 68th minute with Lloyd Kerry replacing Peter Hartley who had picked up an injury.

The change seemed though to encourage Morecambe the ball came to Wayne Curtis and he threaded a ball to Matthew Blinkhorn who beat the Barry Roche  with his right foot to level things .  A minute later Matthew Blinkhorn  was again threaded through but on the turn he could only find the side netting.

Chesterfield brought on a second sub in the 78th minute when Bruce Dyer replaced Steve Fletcher. The Spireites made a third change in the 85th minute with Kevin Cooper replacing David Dowson. Morecambe still looked to press forward but Spireites deep into injury time despite Lloyd Kerry hitting a fierce shot from distance but the home sides man of the match Davies held onto the ball once more.

The Shrimps defence had to hold firm from some neat play but the Spireites couldn't break them down as they pressed in the final minutes for a winner and it ended all square.

Chesterfield dominated the first 45 minutes but Morecambe held on and raised their game after a torrid first half to earn a deserved point
