SANTIAGO Perez, national account director for Global Brands Ltd talks about their sponsorship with Chesterfield FC.

Santiago PerezSanti you're the national account director for Global Brands Limited, the owners of VK Vodka kick, who sponsor the Chesterfield FC away kit.

What do you think of the kit.?

I like it!  It looks great, and it's hopefully something people will want to buy and wear throughout the summer and take to all parts of the globe on their holidays, and it will look well with jeans.

A good sales pitch there, its apparently modelled on the Arsenal kit.  Is there any reason for that besides the fact you perhaps could not afford to sponsor Arsenal

I don't think we could afford a seat at Arsenal to be honest with you. But Chesterfield is where the heart is and it's our local team. We have been involved with shirt sponsorship at Chesterfield for six years or so now starting with the original Silver kit first worn at Shrewsbury when it was first launched. I remember because I went to the game

Do you have any say in the colours?

I think a straight colour looks best, you can't see the logo too well on striped kit's and, like I say, straight colours also tend to look good with jeans and football shirts are becoming part of street clothing.

Global Brands are now world wide, what's next there?

The brand has grown and we are once again starting to import beer again from places like China and the Caribbean, which we are supplying to wholesalers. So we are making new contacts. The Carib brand is an interesting one as they sponsor Trinidad and Tobago and they are also sponsoring next year's Cricket World Cup. Once we get to know them we might drop a few hints and they might also be interested in sponsoring Chesterfield.

What are your thoughts on the playing side at Chesterfield?

We surprised a few people this season and there was some good football to watch. Things though have not been so good over recent weeks. But there are a lot of good young players in the team at the moment and I am sure Roy will be trying to build on that over the summer.

Chesterfield is, like I say, where the heart is. I am very happy being associated with Chesterfield and I do not want to go and watch Arsenal or Man Utd. I want to be at Saltergate on a damp windy evening or travelling to places like Carlisle on a wet and blowy Tuesday night in November.

The one thing that's missing from the Club is the corporate side of things like other grounds have. The new ground when it comes should be great for supporters, the town and for businesses in the area. That should also generate extra revenue for the Club which should make the Club stronger.

Chesterfield at the moment is the only Club's shirt which you sponsor.

We have sponsored a lot of Clubs in the past and we are talking to a few clubs about shirt sponsorship but we are not tied to them. Last season we made the decision to go for more ground advertising from the Premiership down to the Conference and also with England away matches, where you can get a global audience of 30 million plus watching an England match which gives good value for money. But Chesterfield is our home town team and we are very proud of that association.
