THE SLIMAN COLLECTION
We thank Malcom Hayes for his generous gesture in sharing these photos with us. If you have any Chesterfield photos that you might like to share, please contact us. They don't have to be as old as these!

Allan came to prominence with Arthurlie, a respected Scottish Junior side, before turning professional with Bristol City. We think this is an Arthurlie side, but have yet to have it confirmed.

For the princely sum of £2.25 per man the club used the Palm Court Hotel, in Torquay, as a base for their trip to play Plymouth in March 1933.
Back row: W Poynton, E Helliwell, SW Abbott (Trainer,) JW Lee.
Middle row: AM Sliman, A Bacon, S Abel, C Cook, GSA Ashmore, WHT Harvey (Secretary).
Front row: H Wass, SW Swale (Director,) H Hamilton, J McCormick, A Malam, JM McIntyre, SW Austin.

In his pre-professional days Allan apprenticed as a carpenter, and he put those skills to good use here, whacking a lucky horseshoe onto the door of the old changing hut.

Here's one from a "Topical Times" spread that featured a day in the life of Allan Sliman in 1937. He is seen picking up that day's training footwear from Shirley Abbot, the first team trainer.

In another from the "Topical Times" spread, Allan is greeted at his gate by Harry Brown and Horace Wass.

Allan went to Chelmsford after leaving us in 1938. Here is Allan, on the right of the front row, with the Chelmsford City side that enjoyed a fine FA Cup run in 1939, knocking out Southampton by 4-1. On the back, far left, is Horace Wass, who was a Chesterfield and Chelmsford team-mate of Alan.
