The Spireites took the lead after 15 minutes when Emily Montgomery played a fine ball with the outside of her foot through to Georgina Margerrson , the midfielder crossed the ball into the path of Hay who drove home a smart finish, Northampton equalized on the stroke of half time.

 

It was an absorbing contest with both goalkeepers in fine form, Sophie Baggley for the home team made some outstanding saves and she would have felt for her opposite number who was beaten with a fine volley from Lauren Powell to restore the Chesterfield lead, The cobblers again bounced back with a good finish two minutes from the end of the second period.

 

In the final period Chesterfield created a host of chances and were finally rewarded with a second goal from Powell. The victory and Powell's hat trick was cemented a minute from time when the midfielder capped an outstanding performance with a 20 yard free kick which she curled into the top corner of the net.

 

The under14's finally achieved a victory that their performances have deserved thanks to a superb volley from Ruby Burns.

 

The first two periods were goalless with Chesterfield having the most of the possession and creating the better chances. The winning goal finally arrived mid-way through the final period when Mellisa Wilcockson delivered a corner kick which found Ruby Burns on the near post, the smart midfielder spun round and volleyed the ball into the far corner. Northampton piled on the pressure in the final 10 minutes and it was backs to the wall for the Blues who survived the onslaught thanks to strong defending from Harriett Flint, Lauren Jubb and Suzie Gelson and a player of the match performance from goalkeeper Paulette Spencer
