Chesterfield F.C Girls C of E under 16's were on fire at the weekend and with the England scouts in attendance they provided a sizzling performance and a 5-1 victory against Cambridge United.

Chesterfield took advantage of the strong wind behind them and immediately bombarded the Cambridge defence

The visitors capitulated after only 5 minutes when following a goalmouth scramble Kirsty Gibson hit the ball with force into the back of the net.

Five minutes later Zoe Herbert doubled the scoreline with a neat finish from close range.

Chesterfield's centre midfielders Emma Taylor and Grace Wilkinson were in excellent form and although Cambridge did have few chances the Blues keeper Emily Bailey kept the visitors at bay with relative ease.

Centre captain Catherine Davie had been troubling Cambridge's defence with a succession of thrilling runs down the right wing and deserved to score Chesterfield's third goal.

The blues were in magnificent form with quick passing and good movement off the ball.

Wide midfielders Nicole Dale and Catherine Davie terrorized the Cambridge full backs with their surging runs down the channels and a succession of quality crosses and shots.

Another strong run from Davie resulted in Chesterfield's fourth goal as the pacey tricky winger dribbled into the area leaving a trail of defenders in her wake then slotted the ball home from short range.

In the second half Cambridge with the wind to their advantage put more pressure on the Blues defence.

Eventually the home rearguard was broken and a goal was conceded.

Chesterfield however had the final say when Catherine Davie completed a hat-trick with a powerful shot from 22yds out.

Second half strikers Hailey Manners and Barley Knight both went close and trailist Emma Love had a solid debut at the back.

In the other games Chesterfield under 14's had mixed fortunes with a 0-0 first phase scoreline before capitulating 5-0 in the final phase.

The under 12's made a 1-1 draw in a thrilling contest.
