Chesterfield should have took the lead on the hour when from a Cambridge corner they produced a swift counter attack break.Amy Gavuzzi made a strong run down the right wing then cut inside to deliver the perfect pass to Emily Simpkins who was brought down for a penalty. Simpkins then watched with dismay as her spot-kick flew over the bar.
Simpkins now heavily involved in the action took a free kick from 25 yards which sailed over the home keeper hitting the cross bar, striker Gibson was the first to react with a sharp header which again crashed against the cross bar. The ball was this time thumped to safety.
However the impressive Simpkins had the final say and sealed the victory when with ten minutes remaining she struck a fierce shot from 25 yards over the Cambridge keeper and into the back of the net.
It was a deserved reward for a good performance by the u16's who put a lot of good passes together and used the wings to great effect.
