Chesterfield players this week showed they aren't a force to be messed with this upcoming season as they took to the boxing ring at the Spire Boxing Academy in Chesterfield.

Retired boxing professional of 25 years Robbie Sivyer opened the Boxing Academy in the summer of 2006 and in this time it has seen youngsters from every school within the immediate Chesterfield town centre area frequent the gym.

Based in the St Helens ward of Chesterfield, behind the old Catalogue Man on Brimington Road (now the Car Valeting business), the Academy has proved to be a huge success.

The players were put through a rigorous training circuit of the gym, which included skipping, press-ups, various punching bags and a few rounds in the ring with Robbie!

Boxing Academy proprietor Robbie Sivyer said: "Although some of the Chesterfield players have the attributes to make the grade in boxing it was really all about fitness training and the routines we use can be adopted by anyone wanting to keep fit and healthy."

Fitness Boxing is a whole body workout that provides mental toughness as well a physical one and the session provided the players with a change from their normal day to day football training programme.

The Academy has a variety of different classes for everyone to enjoy.
