Roy - 11 v 11 is ok, but add the referee and linesman and it becomes too much?

The referee was poor today and showed that he favoured "the big club" from the start. I didn't see the incident with Lester because there were players in the way, but he elbowed Picken in the chest, and I'm told that if you do that and the referee see's it, you get sent off. He was certainly incompetent for the penalty: whether Agogo was onside or not he should have been booked for diving. Rochey didn't touch him; he took an extra step and decided that he wouldn't get the ball, so he dived over. The fact that the referee doesn't see that is appalling, and its been costly for us.

roy mcfarlandThat's the sour note; there were positives, though, in Chesterfield's performance?

I couldn't have asked any more from the players. We came out today and competed; we had to put a show on and we had to win a game. We've had opportunities to win the game but if you're going to win, you need to score goals when you have those chances. We didn't do that, today. We should have been in front, with Forest chasing the game, rather than us. But the commitment and determination was tremendous and, with the week we've had, if we continue to play like that between now and the end of the season we should be ok.

You still played measured football at 2-0 down and that brought its reward with Downes's goal?

Last year we were 2-0 down but lost our discipline a little bit and they won 4-0. That didn't happen today; we kept playing and caused them problems. I must praise the Forest team in terms of how they defended; they blocked everything we threw at them.

Will you be speaking to the referee?

Its not worth it. He has to look at the video and see if he made the right decisions today. Hopefully the assessor here today will give him the true facts of what he's done today. If he doesn't see that Agogo dived he's got no future as a referee.

You brought young Jackson on?

We wanted to freshen it up, and Holmesy looked a bit tired. We thought that if his pace could get us round their back four we might get something from it, and he gave us a lot of joy.

Injuries?

Mark Allott went into a strong challenge on the halfay line and will have a sore ankle. The Chief, having played three games in a week, he will need four days in a hot bath to get himself going again, but we'll see what we can do, because he's been tremendous. At the moment we're one striker down, so its important that we get somebody in. We can contact clubs and ask the question, but its their decision. Some have said they want more time, and we may get an answer, hopefully, in the early part of next week.
