Roy - we've slipped up in front of our own fans again.

It's happened too often at home, certainly since the start of the year. Today they sneaked a goal from a set piece; it's been frustrating for us, but we haven't been inventive enough in the final third.

How much did we miss Mark Allott?Roy McFarland

He's important to us: it's no coincidence that we've lost the three games that he's missed. He's influential, and can control the midfield. We put Seb in there today and I was quite pleased with what he did, but the worry was, after getting booked so early, he might get sent off for doing something silly.

Let's forget the first half; Chesterfield improved in the second half, after Bournemouth scored?

The referee didn't help in the first half. He blew for innocuous challenges in the first ten or fifteen minutes of the game and the game didn't really get going. When we did get going Holmes put some tremendous crosses in but we didn't get on the end of them. We did pick up a little bit in the second half. We had to take it to them, having gone a goal behind after controlling the game reasonably well.

Jamie Ward's pace ignited things?

He's quite direct, and he gave us hope and optimism. He's had a hectic week but he showed flashes of what he'll do for us in the future.

The one time you want to put a show on for your home fans, it goes flat again. How frustrating is that?

We always want to put a show on. I don't think it was that bad, today. I'll hold my hand up and say that the Basingstoke and Brighton games were dreadful but we did enough today, maybe, certainly not to lose the game but what let us down was our crossing and set-pieces. Holmes produced some great crosses in the first half, (but after that) we just plopped balls up there and the goalkeeper came and caught them.

What did you say to them after the game?

I felt for them a little bit. I didn't think we played that bad today. At times it was poor but we had our spells.

Can you just update us on your injured players?

Kyle Critchell to a knock on his calf and that's sore, and swollen, so we'll wait and see if he travels with the Welsh under-21's. Alex Bailey is coming along very well. He's in full training and we hope to organise a reserve match next week for him and the others who haven't played. We hope that he'll come back into the squad with Allott and Hazell. Alan O'Hare is a fortnight or three week away but is progressing.

Is there any news on Peter Holmes?

We're in touch with Luton but they've asked us to wait. We'd like to extend his loan but that's up to Luton, who may favour another month, with the right to recall him during that month. I think Holmesy is keen to stay here.
