LEE: WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH QUALITY
In another Spireites World TV interview manager Lee Richardson gave his reaction to the result at Macclesfield Town.Read the highlights right here
Very predictable and the story of the season possibly?
A feature of the season definitely. The first half an hour we are well in control and created three or four good chances but lacked urgency to score and were punished with perhaps Macclesfield first real attack. It's no great achievement to dominate possession against Macclesfield they play with five out and out defenders with four in midfield and one up front. It's not great to look at but it keeps them clean sheets and that's there prerogative. They typically have nine men behind the ball it's not easy to break them down. But we didn't have enough quality and I have learnt one or two things today about certain players.
We huffed and puffed and without any real quality didn't open them up especially in the second half. We had to take Steve Fletcher off as a precaution with his hamstring and we ran out of ideas. We lost the game by not taking our chances in the first half and if we had scored they would have had to open up more.
Macclesfield needed the points to ensure survival
Had we displayed any real quality in front of goal we would have been comfortably in front and the game was very similar to the game at Morecombe. But yet we show a soft underbelly and that's because the younger players are not realising the dangers of drifting off in one or two areas. But that leaves me with a lot to work on over the summer because there becomes a time when you have to come to the conclusion that we need better players. We are a better team than Macclesfield and yes they won but that happens in football. Keith sets his teams out to play this way and it can only really be successful in the lower levels because sides don't typically have enough quality to counter it.
Changes at half-time
I felt we needed more balance especially with them dropping and defending deep it wasn't just a case of launching it up to Fletch. We needed to mix the game up a bit and added Dowson to try and spread the pitch basically Again we had plenty of possession but not enough quality. I thought Graeme Owens was our best player in the first half and we should have got on the end of a couple of crosses but we didn't. In the second half he looked the most likely to create something.
