LEE: WANT TO DO BUSINESS AS SOON AS WE CAN
On the players offered new deals
Derek and Phil have been mainstays in the team and the squad for the last couple of years. They haven't had the best of seasons if I am being honest but I think they still can make a contribution. The same goes for Janos and Peter Leven whether we manage to get all four to sign remains to be seen, but we will be trying our level best to do so.
Can you explain why Janos was dropped?
Just before Colin came in I just felt Janos's form was dipping and he was the one of the two young centre halves that wasn't playing as well. I thought Aaron Downes played better in the two games prior to Colin coming in and Aaron did well at Dagenham and against Shrewsbury and certainly wasn't at fault at Morecombe. So that's why Janos found himself out of the team. Janos has admitted that at
On the future
It's pretty clear that over the course of the year we had too much movement in and out with both staff and players coming and going. So I will be looking to be a lot more stable next season with the players who start the season seeing it through perhaps with one or two additions as needed. The comings and goings had to happen for various reasons when things settled down again we were back to averaging two points a game again which usually ensures promotion.
Ideally we want to do business as soon as we can to bring in the players for a full preseason. That's what I am trying to do right now but being a League Two side some players don't want to drop into League Two. People like Graeme Owens we wanted to bring him in October when he would have had the time to make a real impact.
On Width
I can understand why people say that. We have a very narrow pitch and its something we will have to look at perhaps trying to get an extra yard here at Saltergate. Perhaps the narrow pitch also helps the away team play a more defensive game. So I can take the width point but I like a team to be compact. But we have scored freely and we have let ourselves down defensively last year it was the other way around.
I can't really think of a game where we have been dominated for longer than twenty minute periods. We currently don't have a out and out wide man to go on the outside and be an outlet. It is not always easy to get that type of player but we will be trying.
We might have to wheel and deal to do that or strengthen other areas because you always have to cut your cloth accordingly. There is always a threat that people come and go in football if somebody comes in and offers an amount of money that the Football Club feels is to good to turn down and then it's down to the player if he decides he wants to go.
I do though think though that Chesterfield Football Club sent out a statement of intent when they rejected the one hundred thousand pounds offer for Peter Leven. The easy thing to do would have been to take the money especially for a player who will now be out of contract. It didn't because it felt we were pushing for promotion but if someone comes in with enough money that goes out of the window.
On Saturday's trip to Macclesfield
There will be some changes but we also want to win the game and get the three points. I expect that our support will be there and they have been fantastic this season and I am genuinely sorry that their excellent support has not been rewarded with promotion, because that is what we set out to do. But hopefully our last full season at this fantastic ground will be a happy one and this time next year we are talking about going up into a new division and into a new stadium.
