LEE: WE FRITTERED AWAY LOTS OF POINTS
In the first part of an exclusive Spireites World TV interview manager Lee Richardson gave his take on the season and the future. Read the highlights right here
Lee how did you see the season ?
We either take a dim view or a positive view of the season depending on what type of person you are. We are all disappointed that we have missed out, me more than anybody. The reason we missed out is fairly simple we managed to draw eight games against lower opposition after leading with less than half an hour to go. We had two weeks of football where we lost three games on the trot. In one of those three games we got back on level terms with less than half an hour to go and in another we contrived to miss a last minute penalty. So we have frittered away lots of points and that's the reason we are not in the top three.
Had we obtained the points that we should have done we would have got promoted and that everyone's disappointment. But don't forget that's there are lots of good things we have scored seventy five goals and we were regarded to be the best footballing side in the division until January February time. From the outside looking in most people see our season to be a very positive one. It's only within
I have to say this I have been here eight years now and seen the same thing happen to other managers. Before I came here I thought John Duncan was one of the best managers in the lower league keeping
You have to look on the positives and try and improve and that's what I am focused on. I have made mistakes this season I know I have. I have done things that I won't ever do again, not many and no where near as many as people perhaps think. I take responsibility for not getting in to the play offs or better. I have to take that on the chin and ultimately it is my responsibility but the reasons why that not happened is not all down to me.
I am the main decision maker off the pitch I pick the team, choose the tactics and bring players in or let players go. But the decisions made on the pitch are the crucial ones.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing it's easy to pick a team that will never actually play a proper match, it's not so easy to pick a team to win an actual football match or make calls on players at certain times. Most people looking in only have at most twenty percent of the facts and yet they are certain that they are right. That surprises me at times but that's the same for every manager at every football club. I am not saying everything been hunky dory and everything been rosy but it's not far off it. I just think people should keep that in mind and we are looking forward to our last full season at this fantastic old dilapidated football ground that holds a lot of meaning for lots of people. I think we have had a decent season.
On the retained list
I have decided that the likes of Adam Smith, Kevin Cooper, Jamie Jackson, Josh Law, Kevin Gray, and Alan O'Hare won't move us forward to where I want to be and it's perhaps best for everyone that they move on.
Alan O'Hare been unlucky this season and he can certainly argue that he's not had a fair crack of the whip from his point of view. From my point of view we have had a successful season and through no real fault to of his own he found himself on the outside if things. I gave him a contract last season which was really a last chance, because I was disappointed with him last year. He started the season poorly and then responded well and unlucky not to get a better run in the team. You have to make an impact and make an impact as often as possible he may have got himself into a comfort zone. But he's served the club well in his time here and we wish well along with the others that will be leaving the club.
