WE ARE STILL NOT PLAYING TO OUR BEST
Chesterfield Manager Lee Richardson was interviewed by Geoff Mitchell after the Wycombe game. SPIREITES WORLD members can see the interview in full here, and here are the highlights from the video:
"A win is a win and it's a good habit to get into. There are things to work on and we're still not playing to our best. I thought at times we were slightly fortunate: Wycombe had a couple of chances that, had they taken them, could have made this game different. To be fair to the players when we did go forward we looked like we were going to cause them problems and score; we did that on two occasions and could have scored more in the end."
"We started the game extremely well. The first twenty minutes I thought we were super and then we dropped off the pace; we didn't get punished for it but we were slightly fortunate to come in 1-0 up. The first key chance of the second half came to Wycombe, and they didn't take it. That gave us a lift. We made the substitution with Adam Rooney and went 2-0 up straight away to give us some breathing space. I felt at times our standards dropped - we can't let that happen too often."
"Peter Leven has a groin strain so we brought on Alan at half time. Jamie was struggling with blisters and Phil Picken picked up an ankle knock. We've got a couple of walking wounded and we'll assess that with games on Tuesday and Friday. The League pick your team for you in the Tuesday game; you seem to have to find six regulars from somewhere even if ten of them are injured. We were fined for winning a game last year which is strange, because we want to win. We will lose Aaron Downes but Adam Rooney should be available for Tuesday since the Republic of Ireland don't have a midweek game."
