FEATURED PLAYER IAN BRECKIN

Ians just completed his fifth season at Saltergate, central defender Ian is a fixture in the Chesterfield first team and a regular winner of Players Player of the Year awards from his teammates.
6' 1" tall and weighing 12st 9lbs., Rotherham-born Ian is the nephew of John Breckin, assistant to Ronnie Moore at Millmoor. Born on Feb 24 1975 Ian was a top schoolboy player who represented Rotherham Boys at U11 and U15 level and also played for South Yorkshire. He joined his hometown club as a YTS trainee and became a full professional in Nov 1993 with 10 appearances in his first year.
In his Rotherham career Ian played 132 times, scoring 6 goals, with the highlight being the Millers winning visit to Wembley in the Auto Windscreens Shield. However, he was out of contract in the summer of 1997 and joined Chesterfield for a fee of £100,000. At the start of 1997-98 Ian was behind Darren Carr in the pecking order but an early-season injury to Carr gave Ian his chance and he has been an automatic choice ever since.
Up to the end of 2001-02 Ian had appeared over 200 League appearances for the Spireites with 8 goals. Most of those appearances have been in central defence but he was used to great effect at right back for part of 2000-01 with a superb goal against York City in the opening match of the Spireites successful promotion season.
Ian has often been the subject of interest from other clubs but he signed a three-year contact before the start of the 2000-01 season, and is certainly one of Chesterfield's most important players as current captain on the pitch. Ian notched his first goal and only goal of last season in the away win at Northampton.
Over recent weeks Brecks as been linked with moves to Bradford City( who had a cheeky 100K bid refused in January) Sheffield Wednesday who made a more realistic offer believed to be around 250k rejected. Preston, Rotherham, West Brom and Wigan are also believed to be watching the Spireites captain closley.
