SPIREITE NEW STARS
Last month saw two Chesterfield players make their first start in Spireites colours, third year scholar Stephen Warne followed up his substitute appearances at Port Vale in the LDV Trophy and at Swindon Town in the League with a right sided midfield start at Oakwell. The teenager made some telling contributions to the game with some good tackling and sensible distribution before being replaced by Andy Rushbury after 64 minutes, a player Stephen has emulated by winning a full contract for next season.
However young Warne will no doubt remember one moment just before half time when he had a shot from around 8 yards that could have brought The Spireites level but pulled the ball just wide of the left hand post to be denied the ultimate moment of glory.
Also in the Oakwell line up for the first was 20 year old Caleb Folan, a new signing from Leeds United. Caleb has appeared in senior football before, last season he had loan spells at Rushden & Diamonds and Hull City. At Rushden, in October and November 2001, the 6'3" striker, whose turn of pace looks impressive, played 90 minutes of football in a 0-0 draw at Rochdale and he was a playing sub on five other occasions, which included a 3-1 win over Mansfield Town and he started, but was replaced, in a 7-1 LDV drubbing at Cardiff City. Caleb made a sub appearance at Hull, coming on for ex Spireite Laurie Dudfield in a 3-0 win over Oxford United.
A Liverpool fan born in Leeds, our new striker made a good impression last weekend and looks set to be a valuable member of our squad for years to come. Welcome to Saltergate Caleb and well done Stephen for your excellent progress.
