FEATURED PLAYER STUART HOWSON
Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004
The Spireites have completed the signing of defender Stuart Howson from Blackburn Rovers. Football League approval to the free transfer was finally received late Wednesday. Stuart, who is 20 years old, is a left sided central defender and has signed a two and a half year contract.
Stuart said: This is a real opportunity for me as I was ready to move on and progress my career. I had been at Blackburn Rovers for ten years, from junior football through to the reserves, but my contract was due to end in the summer and things are very blocked up there without much opportunity to progress."
Stuart added: "Chesterfield seems to be a real friendly place although I have only been to Saltergate once before as a 14 year old in a round robin tournament which included Newcastle Chesterfield and Blackburn. I also note that the club is run by its supporters which seems right because they are the important people. Without them a club is nothing."
Dave Rushbury said: "We have been watching Stuart for some time and he is the type of young player that the future of Chesterfield can be built on."
