THE CLUBS THE HUB
Year 4 pupils from St. Peter &
In their literacy work, the children had been identifying and comparing different writing styles. They had been collecting examples of football reporting from newspapers and magazines and writing their own football reports. Their visit to the Recreation Ground gave them an insight into the everyday running of a football club - some thinking that the only working day was a match day and being surprised at the amount of work needed before and after the event.
They were impressed by the array of trophies that the Club had won over its 138 year old existence and were hopeful that more would be added in the future.

In the physio's room, Jamie Hewitt explained some of the treatments he has to carry out to bring injured players back to match-level fitness. From there, they moved on to the gym and saw the equipment that players use to achieve the high level of fitness needed to play professional football.
Due to the inclement weather, they were unable to go outside but they did experience standing in the tunnel and looking out on to the pitch just as the players do before running out at the start of a match. They also enjoyed sitting in the Directors' box and saw where the Press sit to broadcast their reports of the game.
Finally, before returning to school, they rounded off their tour with a visit to the Club shop to spend their 'trip money' in true school-trip fashion.
