Youngsters at Woodthorpe Primary School, near Staveley, had a lesson with a difference this week when Lee Richardson paid a call.

Spireites World was also there to capture the occasion and record Lee's regular weekly TV preview, ahead of the weekend's game.

It seems the children were well clued up and gave the Chesterfield manager quite a grilling.

How much did he earn, how did he persuade good players to join Chesterfield, who was his favourite player, was he angry when players made mistakes, and did he know any famous players, were just a small example of the good questions asked by the children.

Lee Richardson said: "I was delighted to visit Woodthorpe Primary School after they had sent me letters and school work for me to see.

"It was all part of Bookweek, which encourages youngsters to read books.

"Reading helps to develop a creative mind, which is always a big asset for any potential footballer."

Connecting with the local community is an ongoing objective of the football club so regular visits to local schools is being undertaken by the club throughout the season.

Lee said: "Youngsters are important for the future of the game so we hope to get to visit as many local schools as we can manage."

There are also other initiatives to attract more youngsters to Saltergate.

At this weekend's game against Macclesfield Town the club welcomes the youngsters from St Mary's School to recognise their school's terrific achievement in being joint winners of the Football League Community Cup, which was played at Wembley.

And coming up later in the month all local youngsters are getting the chance, through their primary schools, to come to Saltergate for the game against Dagenham and Redbridge.
