Congratulations to the youngsters of St Mary's Primary School, Cross Street, Chesterfield who represented  the Spireites in the final of The Football League Community Cup for Under 11 youngsters on Sunday

They played seven minutes each way against a school from Brentford at the new Wembley Stadium before the League One Play-Off Final between Blackpool and Yeovil. Despite St Mary's dominating periods of the game neither side could find a goal on damp Wembley playing surface, and the game finished 0-0 with both schools now sharing the trophy . The youngsters had a great time and enjoyed a full behind the scenes tour of the Stadium.

Organised by Andy Morris and Chesterfield's Football in the Community Scheme, the team from St Mary's Primary School beat off all competition from other local primary schools, in a local tournament held at Middlecroft, for the right to represent the football club in the Northern Regional Finals played at Millmoor last week against teams from other League One clubs.

The team certainly did everyone proud because they topped their mini-league after an unbeaten run against Bradford City (won 3-0), Crewe (won 2-0), Port Vale (won 3-0), Rotherham United (won 1-0), Doncaster Rovers (won 2-0). 

They then went on to beat Tranmere Rovers (won 1-0) in the Northern Regional Final to set up the game against Brentford, who are the Southern Regional finalists.

The team, included Jamie Hewitt's lad Alex, and their parents are being put up in a London Hotel before their big day at Wembley this weekend.

It's the second time in two years that a team from Chesterfield has made progress in the Community Cup.  Last year the football club was represented by North Wingfield who were knocked out on penalties by Doncaster Rovers in the Northern Regional Final.
