Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said: "I am delighted that Kevin Cooper has agreed to join us as he is a quality player who had other options apart from Chesterfield."

The experienced 32 year old, who started his football career as a Derby County trainee, has also had spells at Stockport County and MK Dons with total transfer fees amounting to nearly £2 million.

Chesterfield has beaten off some keen competition for the player's signature.  He was recently released from his contract with Cardiff City, which has enabled the Spireites to sign him.
