SPIREITES IN THE PARK
Youngsters from Chesterfield FC's Centre of Excellence are giving a demonstration of skills and drills in a special training session in Chesterfield's Queens Park this Saturday from 11.00am to 12 noon.
It's all part of the special event being organized by The Friends of Queen's Park group, in conjunction with Chesterfield Borough Council, to greet the arrival of Spring and re-welcome visitors into Queen's Park.
Held as part of local tourism's 'On your doorstep' weekend, which encourages local people to use local tourist attractions, the event will showcase the attractions of the Park which re-opened last year after a £4.7 million programme of improvements.

"Come and listen to some music, ride on the miniature train or try your skill on a Wacky Bike", said Queen's Park Development Officer, Sarah Poulton,
"Come and see the traction engines from Chesterfield & District Model Engineering Society, take part in the treasure hunt or the balloon race or have your face painted.

"Learn some circus skills or listen to a story told by the 'Wild Man of the Woods' - there really is something for everyone.
"You can even meet the daughter of Lalla, the little girl whose likeness was preserved by a statue made by her father many years ago, which is a favourite feature in the park."
The Friends of Queen's Park will have a stand and special seasonal activities will be going on in the SureStart building, including a teddy bears picnic.
Also on hand will be the Territorial Army, RSPB, the Bat Society and the Wildlife sub-group of the Friends. The Fire and Rescue Service will be popping along later in the afternoon.

In addition to Chesterfield Football Club's Centre of Excellence U13/U14's there will be, weather permitting, a demonstration by Chesterfield Cricket Club.
There will also be a chance to see scenes from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' performed by members of the Pomegranate Youth Theatre
To mark the completion of the restoration of the Park, the Friends are going to bury a time capsule and are asking for people to bring their ideas along or an item they wish to be considered for inclusion.

"Now spring is here again, join us and spring back into Queen's Park", said Sarah. "And don't forget to cut out your voucher from this week's local paper to claim your 2-for-1 ride on the Park's miniature train!"
