The under 16 game against Lincoln was very even with both teams having chances to score. The players for this squad know they have to defend better as a team, mainly this is down to their concentration. The under 16s will always score goals because they are very good at attacking the opposition but have to realise that they cannot neglect their defensive duties.
Irrespective of the results the Centre players have to analyse how they played in their last game and try to improve the weaker areas of their overall play. Analysing their own performance and being self critical will only help to improve their performances.
The players have to be mentally strong as well because Lincoln produces some very big players, sometimes this can be very daunting for some of the smaller players. If the opposition is a little bit stronger than our players we stress to the players that we have to keep the ball and play round them. It does not matter if you are smaller than the opposition, all you need is a desire to win the ball and tackle.
We try to produce players who are technically very good so by the time they reach the ages of 15/16 years of age they will have developed the strength plus the technical ability to accompany that strength.
